Secrets of your Israeli phone

Phone lines from Bezeq, Israel's domestic phone service provider, have the following "undocumented" features:

Without surcharge (other than applicable call charges)

Call forwarding
Dial 72, wait for the tone, then dial the number to forward the call to.
End call forwarding
Dial 72 again
Call redirect on busy
as for call forward, but 73 instead of 72
Call redirect on no answer
this time, 74 instead of 72
Last caller
Dial *42 to call back the last person who called you or tried to call you. Convenient if you were in the shower while somebody tried to call you.
Nudnik
You call somebody and the phone is busy. Press "FLASH" (itut) followed by *41. Hang up after the beep. The phone will ring the moment the party you are trying to call hangs up, and so will his/hers.
Cancel nudnik
Dial *61 if you changed your mind
Call waiting
Active by default on all Bezeq lines. If you are on the phone and somebody tries to reach you, you will hear a signal of three short beeps (dot-dot-dot) that is repeated every 10 seconds. The 'waiting' caller will hear the same dot-dot-dot signal instead of the busy signal. If after 60 seconds you haven't picked that call up (see below how to) the caller will get a regular "busy" signal and you will no longer hear the "call waiting" tone. (You can of course still hit *42 after you hang up.)
To switch back and forth between the "waiting" call and the call you are on, briefly hit "FLASH" (itut).
Cancel call waiting
Call Bezeq's customer service at 199 to have "call waiting" disabled. This is recommended for lines that are principally used for faxes or modems, since the call waiting signal will almost invariably send your fax/data call down the tubes
***NEWS 22/1/99***
As of today, Bezeq phones enable call waiting for individual calls (like in the US). At the dial tone, hit *70, wait for the next dial tone, then dial the number you wanted to call. You will not be disturbed by "call waiting" signs for the duration of the call. (Modem users may want to add "*70," to their "dialing prefix" or "modem initialization string".)
Changed phone number assistance
If somebody moved and/or had their number changed within the last year, you can request the new number by dialing 146-xx-yyyyyyy*, where xx is the area code and yyyyyyy is the old phone number. The computer will read out the new number if any.

Pay services

Wake-up call
Dial 175, followed by the hour at which you want to be woken up in four digits, e.g. 175-0615 to be woken up at 6:15 AM. Wait for the acknowledgment and hang up. (Price: 3 call units)
Cancel wake-up call
Dial 1759.
